As the Minister enters, the congregation stands.
INTRODUCTION AND WELCOME
OPENING HYMN
- Thy hand, O God, has guided 4. Through many a day of darkness,:
Thy flock, from age to age; Through many a scene of strife,
The wondrous tale is written, The faithful few fought bravely,
Full clear, on every page; To guard the Nation’s life.
Our fathers own’d Thy goodness, Their Gospel of redemption,
And we their deeds record; Sin pardon’d, man restored,
And both of this bear witness, Was all in this unfolded,
One Church, one Faith, one Lord, One Church, one Faith, one Lord.
- Thy heralds brought glad tidings 5. And we, shall we be faithless?
To greatest , as to least; Shall hearts fail, hands hang down?
They bade men rise, and hasten Shall we evade the conflict,
To share the great King’s feast; And cast away our crown?
And this was all their teaching, Not so; in God’s deep counsels
In every deed and word, Some better thing is stored;
To all alike proclaiming We will maintain, unflinching,
One Church, one Faith, one Lord. One Church, one Faith, one Lord.
- When shadows thick were falling, 6. Thy mercy will not fail us,
And all seem’d sunk in night, Nor leave Thy work undone;
Thou, Lord did send Thy servants, With Thy right hand to help us,
Thy chosen sons of light, And Victory shall be won:
On them and on Thy people And then, by men and angels,
And this was still their message, And this shall be their anthem,
One Church, one Faith, one Lord. One Church, one Faith, one Lord.
Prayers of Penitance:
The officiant invites us to confess our sins.
ALL Amen Lord have mercy
The officiant declares the Absolution
ACT OF RE-DEDICATION AN REMEMBRANCE
We remain standing.
Peter Sloan, President of the Old Honitonians Club remembers:
Let us dedicate our lives to the service of God, our Queen, our country and our
Neighbours. Let us remember all those who have died in the service of their country, especially those recorded on our memorials. We remember those of Allhallows, especially the recently departed.
Roddy Long OH, Past President, lays a wreath at the Altar
LAST POST – Patrick McCaig
ALL: Lord God our Father, we pledge ourselves to serve you and all
Mankind, in the cause of world peace. Hear our prayers and
thanksgivings for all whom we remember this day; fulllfill in them
the purpose of our love. Guide us by your Spirit, give us wisdom,
give us courage, give us hope, and keep us faithful now and always. Amen
REVEILLE – Patrick McCaig
The First Reading
Ecclesiastees Ch 3 vv 1-8
Peter Sloan
HYMN
1 .For all the saints, who from their labours rest, 4. And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long,
Who thee by faith before the world confessed, Steals on the ear the distant triumph-song,
Thy name, O Jesus, be for ever blessed, And hearts are brave again, and arms are strong,
Allelulia, Allelulia! Allelulia, Allelulia!
- Thou wast their rock, their fortress and their might, 5. But lo! There breaks a more glorious day:
Thou, Lord their Captain in the well fought fight, The saints triumphant rise in bright array;
Thou in the darkness still their one true light. The King of Glory passes on his way;
Allelulia, Allelulia. Allelulia, Allelulia.
- O may thy soldiers, faithful, true and bold, 6. From earth’s wide bounds, from ocean’s farthest coast
Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old, Through the gates of pearl streams in the countless host,
And win, with them the victor’s crown of gold. Singing to the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
Allelulia, Allelulia! Allelulia, Allelulia!
The Second Reading
John ch 14 vv 1 – 3
David Richardson
Prayers
We kneel or sit
We say together:
Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come,
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those that trespass against us,
And lead us not into temptation;
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power and the glory,
For ever and ever. Amen
HYMN
- Love Devine, all loves excelling 4. Thee we would be always blessing,
Joy of Heav’n, to earth come down, Serve thee as Thy hosts above,
Fix in us Thy humble dwelling, Pray and praise Thee without ceasing,
All Thy faithful mercies crown. Glory in Thy perfect love.
- Jesu, thou art all compassion, 5. Finish then Thy new creation,
Pure unbounded love thou art: Pure and spotless let us be;
Visit us with Thy salvation, Let us see Thy great salvation,
Enter every trembling heart. Perfectly restored in Thee.
- Come, Almighty to deliver, 6. Changed from glory into glory,
Let us all Thy grace receive; Till in Heav’n we take our place,
Suddenly return, and never, Till we cast our crowns before Thee,
Never more Thy temples leave. Lost in wonder, love and praise.
ADDRESS
HYMN
- Praise my soul, the King of Heaven 2. Praise Him for His grace and favour
To His feet thy tribute bring: To our fathers in distress;
Rasnsom’d, heal’d, restored, forgiven, Praise Him still the same as ever
Evermore His praises sing; Slow to chide, and swift to bless;
Allelulia! Allelulia! Allelulia! Allelulia!
Praise the everlasting King. Glorious in His faithfulness.
3. Father-like, He tends and spares us,
Well our feeble frame He knows;
In His hands He gently bears us,
Rescues us from all our foes;
Allelulia! Allelulia!
Widely yet His mercy flows.
BLESSING
Please remain standing

OVER £7,000.00 RAISED BY THE HUMBLE POINTERS CHARITY HIKE
Sun 08 Aug 2021Well we did it and so far just over £7,000.00 raised for MacMillan Cancer Supportt!!
It was a long and hot day! But the aches and pains were far outweighed by the stunning views and the pleasure of sharing a common goal with old friends, and the camaraderie and fun of a 50-year friendship created a wonderful day we won't forget.
We can't thank our friends, families and fellow OHs enough for your support which has enabled us to smash and far exceed our original £5000 target for Macmillan - thank you to all of you for your generosity and all your super messages.
A special thank you to Nigel and Sarah Clist for their generous hospitality in hosting The Humble Pointer over two nights and in particular to Sarah for following us in the support vehicle and providing refreshments and encouragement all along the way.

UPDATE ON THE HUMBLE POINTERS CHARITY WALK - 22ND JULY,2021
Tue 06 Jul 2021Three weeks to go and training is becoming intense (!) with a recce expedition from the old school to Eype. An intrepid member of the Team is shown scaling the infamous West Face of Golden Cap. Dipper's place (that's the dog) on the expedition as 6th team member is now in doubt after her blatant display of reckless disregard for danger.
The Humble Pointers are aiming to raise £5,000.00 in sponsorship for MacMillan Cancer Support and so far, thanks to very generous support from OHs, friends and family, they have raised £3,642.00 (72% of their target). If you have not yet done so please do visit the Team's Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/myfanwy-adams3 and help them achieve that £5,000.00 target.
A free pint at Portesham at the end of the hike for correct identification of the backside featured in this daring summit attempt.

AT LAST - SOME EVENTS IN THE DIARY TO TAKE NOTE OF!
Tue 18 May 2021Whilst it is clear that the COVID pandemic is not yet behind us and that we do all still need to be careful, some Government restrictions are now easing and with the vaccination programme well underway the Club can, with some confidence, look to announce some future events and activities.
First up, The Humble Pointers (Myf Adams, John Ball, John Campbell-Clause, Nigel Clist, and Peter Sloan) will be undertaking their 26 mile hike on Thursday 22nd July. Starting at the crack of dawn from Allhallows the team, with a combined age of 342 years, hope to reach their destination, Hardy’s Monument located on the ridge above Chesil Beach, by dusk (or at least before the pubs close!) and along the way to raise a bumper total for MacMillan Cancer Support. For more details and how to sponsor the team visit: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/myfanwy-adams3 and please sponsor as generously as you can. It would be magnificent if the Club team could raise a sum in the region of £5,000.00 which would certainly ease the pain of five pairs of blistered feet!
Next up, the OH Golf Society, is once again up and functioning under the guidance and enthusiasm of John Pagliero. Time finally to dust off those clubs, get your tees to the ready and venture once more onto the greens and fairways of our fair land. John has meetings and fixtures arranged for June and July and into the autumn so do please contact him at johnpagliero@gmail.com and get all the details. New members are very welcome.
Finally, but by no means least, put the date of Saturday, 11th September in your diary for the Club’s AGM and West Country Lunch to be held once again at The Victoria Hotel, Sidmouth. Last year’s AGM and West Country lunch could not go ahead due to COVID so why not make a special effort to join with your friends and contemporaries this year for what is always a very enjoyable occasion. Further details concerning the AGM will be posted in due course but in the meantime to book your place for the three course lunch (£26.00 per head) please send your cheque made payable to ‘Old Honitonians’ to David Richardson at 4 Bournewood Drive, Bournemouth, Dorset, BH4 9JP (davidrichardson652@gmail.com) and reserve your place. We are expecting numbers to be high so do please book early with David to avoid disappointment.
Remember, the OH Club is nothing without the participation of its members. We have had eighteen months of virtual hibernation. Let us begin to enjoy one another’s company once again by supporting one or all of the above activities/events.

NEW DATE FOR HQS WELLINGTON DRINKS PARTY
Thu 04 Feb 2021Whilst the Club is delighted to announce the publication of the 2020 OH Magazine, the Club Committee have sadly come to the decision to cancel the London Drinks party that was planned for 21st May, 2020 on board HQS Wellington.
Notwithstanding the progress that is being made with the vaccination programme and the lowering of the infection rate the Club Committee has concluded that the social distancing rules would not be sufficiently relaxed to make a drinks party in May entirely safe or viable. In the circumstances, the Committee has decided that the right decision is to cancel the event for this year. (Please note that this decision was taken after the 2020 OH Magazine went to press.)
However, OHs must not despair! Despite this second cancellation, HQS Wellington has been re-booked for FRIDAY 20TH MAY, 2022 when every efforts will be made to ensure that the Club enjoys a night to remember.
Please make a note of this new date. Further details will follow in due course.
