Nicholas Hugh Lindo. Teacher and Stanton House Tutor
The Allhallows community was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former staff member Nick Lindo on 22 November 2023, at the age of 87.
Nick was Stanton Housemaster and Allhallow Teacher between 1970 - 1976.
His time at Allhallows left a lasting impression on both colleagues and students, and his influence extended far beyond the classroom, not least as Nick was a coach to the 1st X1 Cricket team for several years.
Nick’s academic journey began at Durham University, where he studied Social Sciences at St John’s College. His leadership qualities shone early on, as he captained the university cricket teams at both Durham and later at Hertford College, Oxford, where he completed his Diploma in Education. His passion for cricket and education ran in parallel throughout his life.
Following his time at Allhallows, Nick and his family moved across the globe to New Zealand, where he embarked on a long and fulfilling career at Christ’s College, Christchurch. Here, he continued to inspire young minds and made lasting contributions to the school’s community.
In his later years, after retiring from teaching, Nick found a new calling in political writing. He became a respected columnist for several newspapers in New Zealand, where his insightful commentary and sharp wit earned him recognition and acclaim.
Nick is survived by his children Hugh, Rebecca, and Murray, his grandchildren, and his second wife, Jean.
