Robert Baly (Shallow 1960 - 1965)

The club were recently informed by Guy Baly that his brother Robert had very sadly passed away.

Robert was in Shallow House between 1960-65. On discovering an aptitude for Cross Country running very early on, he ran for the school for many years becoming Captain of Cross Country for his final two years. He studied Classics under V A L Hill, gained A levels in Latin, Greek and Ancient History and became a School Prefect.

Failing entry into Oxford he was articled to Lovell White & King and on qualifying as a Solicitor enjoyed a highly successful career in Hong Kong as a partner with Johnson Stokes & Master.

On retirement in 1991 Robert lived in Normandy for some years eventually returning to West Sussex about 20 years ago.

In retirement, he was involved in various trusteeships, and non-executive and advisory roles, and gave much of his time and experience to local organisations.

Throughout his life, Robert's particular passions included rugby (on TV!), sailing, shooting and horse racing. His abilities in some of these pursuits occasionally failed to match his enthusiasm, as one or two of his crew might observe, but his enjoyment of them never faltered.

Robert leaves his wife Sity, family and innumerable friends.
