It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew Allen Root (Venning 1982–1986). Matthew's contributions to the school were numerous, and his leadership, intelligence, and dedication left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

During his time at the school, Matthew served as a school prefect in 1985 and held the prestigious role of Head of School in the same year. His academic achievements were remarkable, with notable accolades including the Project Prize for his work on "The Greenham Women" in 1985, the Headmaster's Prize in 1986, the Honiton Gift in 1986, and the Blackburne-Kane Cup in 1986.

Matthew's athleticism was equally impressive, having served as Captain of the Rugby 2nd XV in 1985. He was a well-respected and admired member of the school community, and his legacy endures through the many lives he touched.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Matthew will be deeply missed.
