Gareth Banting (Staff)

Gareth Banting (Staff 83 - 98) passed away on 5th January 2021. He attended Denstone School followed by Selwyn College, Cambridge where he read History. Between 1972 and 1983 he taught History, Shooting and introduced Politics to the curriculum at Cranleigh, where he also ran the shooting team and was involved in the CCF. He married Michèle, who taught music at Cranleigh, in 1977 and the following year they had a son, Tim (Lillies 92 - 97).

Gareth came to Allhallows in 1983 where he taught History, Politics and Shooting. He was there for 15 years, many spent as a highly respected Housemaster, until he retired with the school closure in 1998. He went on to volunteer as a CAB Advisor, RSPCA Home Visitor (reflecting his life-long love of his dogs), and then became a Eucharistic Minister in the Axminster area, taking Holy Communion to residential homes and individuals who were housebound.
