What a wonderful OH Clay Pigeon Shoot we enjoyed today.

With OHs from the 1960s, 1980s and 1990s, and representatives from Baker, Lillies, Middlemist and Venning Houses, it was a fantastic occasion that brought together generations of our Allhallows community.

Over breakfast and coffee at The Perbeck Shooting School, there was plenty of time to catch up with fellow alumni before the competitive shooting got underway. There was no shortage of support and good-natured cheering as clays were struck. Afterwards, everyone retired to the Royal Oak in Bere Regis, known affectionately within the OH community as the Ring of Feathers, for more conversation, laughter and, of course, a chance to check the scores.

As one OH put it: “There were so many Xs on the score sheet, it looked more like a love letter!”

In this instalment, Dave reflects on his time at Allhallows, sharing memories of racket sports, especially squash, the teachers who made a lasting impression, life after leaving school in the radio industry, his diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, and his continued involvement with the OH Club.

The OH Golf Society gathered for its usual three-day tour of the West Country between 22 and 24 June. I know it's normal for golfers to grumble about the weather, but this year's truly exceptional temperatures gave us all a harder-than-usual challenge. It peaked at about 36°C (nearly 100 in old money) on the third day, but most of us slogged through regardless. Despite that, we had a great time catching up with old friends, with two enjoyable meals at Poco Pizza and the Harbour Inn in Lyme Regis. Some of us stayed at Airbnbs in Rousdon, taking an interesting trip down memory lane, with a bit of tutting at the rewilding of the 1st XI cricket square and all the other playing pitches!

We started off with our usual match against the Fleet Air Arm Officers Association's Golf Society at Yeovil Golf Club on Monday 22 June. The OH team of Messrs Wakeford R, Page/Bridger, Heard/Zealey, Edwards/Christie and Danskin/Howlett battled to a draw (2.5/2.5 points each). Many thanks to Richard Seymour OH, who made the arrangements with his customary bonhomie and sangfroid.

On to Lyme Regis Golf Club for the OH Golf Championship. The course was in fine condition, with some welcome sea breezes. There was to be no repeat of Justin Tunstall's famous victory in 2025, as Jeremy Edwards became the proud winner of the Trophy with 36 points, with David Danskin second, a point behind, edging out Kit McGrath, who finished third on countback. Roddy Wakeford won the Nearest the Pin, and John Pagliero won the Longest Drive. Others who played were Joe Wakeford, Nigel Howlett, Rafi Husain, John Bridger, Paul Zealey, Richard Heard, Christian Apsey, Justin Tunstall, John Harper, Jonathan Christie, Jeremy Page and John Harper.

The last stage of our tour took us to Sherborne Golf Club, with the aforementioned high temperatures. Only four of us finished the round, and I don't think it's worth mentioning the result other than to say that everyone who finished was awarded a well-deserved prize.

Overall, it was a highly successful trip, and preparations are under way for next year's event. Do come along if you can make it – you will be most welcome.
