Dr. Ian Douglas Green, Ph.D. (Stanton House, 1945–1950)
The Old Honitonians Club were very saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Ian Douglas Green.
Ian joined Stanton House in September 1945 and made a distinguished contribution to school life during his time at Honiton.
He was confirmed in June 1946 and quickly established himself as a dedicated student and leader. His academic achievements included gaining the School Certificate in 1947 and the Higher Certificate in 1950, as well as being awarded the Kitchener Medical Services Scholarship. He was also recognised with the Form Va Prize for English Literature.
Ian served as House Prefect from 1948, becoming a School Prefect in 1949 and Head of Stanton House in 1950. He was active across many aspects of school life – a librarian, and a member of the XX Club, Debating Society, and Dramatic Society.
In sport, Ian was awarded 2nd XV Colours for rugby (1948–49) and 2nd XI Colours for hockey (1950). He also excelled in shooting, receiving Miniature Range Colours in 1950.
A committed member of the C.C.F., he rose to the rank of Cadet Under Officer, earning Certificate "A" and the Cadet's Cup in 1948. He attended training camps at Warminster (1948–49) and Aldershot (1950).
Dr. Green's contributions, both at school and in his professional life thereafter, will be remembered with great respect and affection by all who knew him.
