2014 Allhallows Day
Allhallows Memorial Service , Saturday 1st November 2014
Some 40 OHs and friends lunched at the Hare & Hounds, Gittisham before attending the annual Allhallows Memorial Service in St Paul’s Church, Honiton on Saturday, 1st November, All Saints Day. The President welcomed the Deputy Mayor of Honiton who joined us for lunch and also read the second lesson during the service.
The service was conducted by Brigadier Nigel Speller MBE OH and we were very pleased that the Bishop of Crediton was with us and gave an elightening sermon, with a touch of humour to keep our attention (did you know the story of the Bishop and the Admiral?), based on the text of the first reading, Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 verses 1-12 which extols the gift of time and giving clarity to the importance of time in all aspects of our lives. Patrick McCaig sounded the Last Post and Reveille to perfection on his trumpet. The roll of 11 OHs who have died since the last Memorial Service was read out by the President.
After the service the Bishop talked with many of those present over a cup of tea and Roddy was very pleased to be able to say that the bells of the church will ring out before the service on 7th November 2015.
