2003, Leaver’s Reunion 1968
Burley Manor Hotel, New Forest. November 21st - 23rd, 2003.
"Michael row the boat ashore!" was the first line of the traditional song as we drove down the drive after winning an away match. I first heard it on returning with the 1st XV in 1968. I was proud of them then and it was great to see so many of them at one reunion.
The close friendship that grows in boarding together had stood the test of time and spontaneous pleasure was evident as we met on the Friday evening
I particularly remember the exerting sporting competitions we had with other schools, but this was also the time that girls arrived at Allhallows and Shirley reminds me that many present had taken part in 'Oliver!' Could a school devote the spring Term to a musical and achieve all its other aims and academic results? We did!
Early on Saturday morning we watched the World Cup Final on Television, which will be a lasting memory not just for the tension and awesome result, but for the banter and champagne on the final whistle.
Our Captain then ordered us to the hotel gates, where we boarded a double-decker bus, provided by Steve Bath, proclaiming 'Allhallows Special' in large red letters. We had a magical afternoon with super food and wine in the forest. Back at the hotel for tea we browsed over an exhibition of Allhallows memorabilia. An excellent formal dinner followed with the Gentlemen playing musical chairs after each course.
On Sunday morning good byes were qualified by "Here's to the next time……in Paris 2004!" Our thanks go to Richard Anderson and the others who organised everything so superbly.
